I am a quadruple board-certified psychiatrist in general, addiction and forensic private practice in New York and California. I serve as faculty at Columbia University and at Central New York Psychiatric Center as the Sex Offender Management liaison psychiatrist. I work closely with medical students as well as psychiatric residents and fellows at Columbia University where I serve as the co-director of the sexual behavior rotation. (Full Resume).
I completed general psychiatry residency at Brown University in Providence, RI, an addiction psychiatry fellowship at UCSF in San Francisco, a forensic psychiatry fellowship at the Columbia University Cornell University combined program and a fellowship in psychiatric research at Columbia University in New York. I am the immediate past vice chair of the APA Council on Addiction Psychiatry.
My work focuses on examining the intersection of Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and the law. Specifically, I work on program development and implementation in reentry models for individuals with SUD, examining interventions that reduce crime recidivism in this population. I also study decision-making trees for persons with SUD in order to better understand why they may engage in self-defeating behaviors.
In addition, my expertise includes the neuro-psycho-endocrinology of Alcohol Use Disorder, behavioral economic model of addictions, public policy and advocacy for issues pertaining to access to care for underprivileged and stigmatized populations including those with substance use disorders, LGBT and incarcerated individuals. I contributed to multiple clinical trials looking at treatments and hormonal specificities in Alcohol Use Disorders at the Center for Alcohol and Addiction studies at Brown University.
I am an experienced clinician, educator, researcher, advocate and public policy consultant. My mission is to provide evidence based, culturally informed, patient centered psychiatric services. I am the recipient of numerous prominent honors and awards, was a speaker at several local, national and international professional meetings, and authored and published multiple book chapters, policy papers, position statements, journal articles and scientific papers in prestigious peer reviewed journals. My work has been cited in the popular press, scientific journals, policy documents and amicus curiae briefs.
